Examples of recent expert witness projects are as follows:

South Marshmead Coal Mine - South Blackwater, Central Qld

Review of existing hydrogeological data and numerical modelling to assess the impact of mine dewatering on regional water supplies, particularly farm bores. Expert witness appearance in the Warden’s Court hearing of objections to granting of the mining lease.  

Proposed Sand Quarry- Kilcoy, Qld

An impact assessment study was undertaken of a proposed sand/gravel quarry in alluvium of the Sandy Creek valley. A water balance of the operations was prepared to assess groundwater inflow to the pit and the impact on the groundwater regime. Appearance as an Expert Witness in the Land and Environment Court was required.  

Bruderhof Communities - Inverell, NSW

A hydrogeological assessment was undertaken of two adjacent properties situated near Inverell and a number of production bores drilled to supply a community of 400 people. An assessment of the sustainability of the groundwater resource and the impact of the proposed extraction was undertaken in order to satisfy the requirements of DLWC and to address concerns raised by local landowners. Provided expert witness services at a public hearing held in accordance with the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning requirements for proposed amendments to the Inverell Local Environmental Plan 1988.  

Groundwater Impact Assessment - Marcus Shores, Qld

An assessment of the impact of the proposed Marcus Shores development on the groundwater regime was prepared to provide further particulars with respect to potential environmental issues, in a claim for compensation against Noosa Shire Council, who implemented a development control plan preventing rezoning of the land for development. Provided expert witness services in the Planning and Environment Court.  

East-Point Development - Mackay, Qld

The impacts of a proposed integrated resort and residential development on a sand mass with frontage to the Pacific Ocean, Pioneer River and the tidal Bassett Creek were assessed with respect to the groundwater regime. Consideration was given to reduction in infiltration, increase in nutrients and use of groundwater for gardens. Mitigation options were developed where adverse impacts were identified. Appeared as an Expert Witness at the Planning and Environment Court.
