Groundwater Supply

Some typical groundwater supply projects are:

Town of Rainbow Beach Water Supply, Qld

Establishment of five production bores in the Cooloola Sandmass to replace the surface water extraction system, which required extensive treatment to remove discolouration, following approval from the Department of Natural Resources and Water and the Environmental Protection Agency/National Parks. Pairs of monitoring bores were established to assess the impact of groundwater extraction on the shallow perched aquifer, and if this would have any environmental consequences. Recommendations made for a pumping regime capable of delivering 46L/s and a monitoring program.

Artesian Bores for Bauxite Processing, Weipa, Qld

Five 800m deep artesian bores were drilled and constructed as part of the water supply for a bauxite beneficiation plant at Andoom. The bores were constructed to extract up to 80L/s from the Gilbert River Formation and Garraway Sandstone aquifers of the Great Artesian Basin.

Kogan Creek Power Station Water Supply, Qld

Design of a 1300m deep bore to Precipice Sandstone and 1000m deep bore to Hutton Sandstone, tender documentation, contract supervision, numerical modelling and reporting to the Department of Natural Resourcs and Water Licence conditions. An allocation of 1500ML/year (47.5L/s) was obtained from the Precipice Sandstone and 420ML/year (13.3L/s) from the Hutton Sandstone.

City of Toowoomba Water Supply, Qld

The potential of obtaining up to 2000ML/year from the Helidon Sandstone aquifer of the Great Artesian Basin was identified and groundwater modelling was undertaken to support a Water Licence application within the constraints of the Great Artesian Basin Water Resources Plan. A 635m deep test hole borehole was drilled and a 650m deep, 450mm diameter production bore was designed and constructed.

Alumbrera Gold-Copper Mine - Campo Arenal Wellfield, Argentina

A regional numerical groundwater flow model of a large inter-mountain basin supplying the mine operation with process water was developed to simulate extraction of up to 1000L/sec from the Campo Arenal aquifer and assess the sustainability of the wellfield and its impact on the surrounding rivers and groundwater users in the area.

Three Delta Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project, Vietnam

The objective of the project is to improve the welfare of the residents in Bac Lieu, Ha Tien, and Sa Dec by rehabilitating and extending water supply, drainage, and waste water facilities and services. A program was developed for surveying of existing deep wells, investigation of the potential of the aquifer systems to 250m depths, and installation and testing of 2 production wellfields.
